What are rituals? Rituals are things you do every day/week/month a ritual could also be a tradition. some examples of rituals; - prayer - saying good morning -celebrations.
I chose rituals because i felt like i would be able to do more within the time frame, i felt more confident doing rituals, i don't doubt myself as much because i know what to focus on.
Today our task was to go around school and take pictures based on our choice(openings, architecture, unusual portraiture, rituals, and human condition). This task for me wan't hard because i had lots of time to think about it.
in todays lesson i went out to take photographs of rituals in school trying to improve my set of photographs i took before(look above.)
In the photograph i can see people, there is a child in a swimming costume looking down at the adult who accompanied her. I can see a bucket and spade like there at a beach but it doesn't look like a beach theres no sand or water and its looks like its a hot day but theres only 3 people. there is nothing in the picture that seems new to me, lots of the objects in the photograph you see everyday depending on where you live. The photograph reminds me of family days out to the beach creating memories laughing and just having a good time together. i think that the most important formal elements are light, line and shape, i can see the texture through the different shades and how the light reflects off the objects, the lines in the photograph are very bold. in the image there is lots of negative space. in my opinion I don't think that the image is different to reality I feel the image reflects reality on a sunny day. if Martin parr was here I would ask him why he took the photo and if he was inspiredly would ask him if he ever doubted the photo or wanted to edit it even if it was just to the shades.
In this lesson i wasn't really sure what to do so my teacher gave me some ideas, and i put these images onto a piece of A3 paper then i wrote the different steps you have to do when you go to church, and i changed the style of the text.
Things i do every day include:
- waking up at 7:00 am
- getting ready for school
- brushing my teeth
- getting food for break
- going to lessons and do work
- eating lunch - going to my last lesson - going to tutor - going home
In todays double lesson i had planned to take some more pictures of rituals, this was hard for me to do because i had took lots before.i am happy with the way my pictures came out today, when i printed them of the colour was darker so they look like they were taken a long time ago .(look below.)with the picture i have taken i am going to make a sculpture.
In todays double lesson i was confused on what i was supposed to do, my teacher looked over my website and said that my work is stronger when i do close ups,(zoom in) so that is what i started to focus on. The photos that i took look very good and i am excited to see how the rest turn out.
Research:
Sophie Calle:
"Sophie Calle acted as a chambermaid to investigate the life's of strangers through their possessions and habits." - www.guggenheim.org/arts-curriculum/topic/sophie-calle in the images above i like how they have been set out chronologically, i also like how the images are in black and white.
In the pictures above i took pictures of some horses eyes, because seeing the horses everyday is a ritual for me.
in the lesson today me and my photography teacher went to different locations and took pictures showing things i do in the day. I think some of the images went well, during the shoot i felt uncomfortable but that was because i am never the model i would always ask a classmate to help me.
In todays lesson i took more close-ups. www:i think I took some good photographs but they aren't as good as I had hoped because I couldn't get really close. ebi: i could get close to students to actually take close-ups.
I wanted to try an experiment where i was following a journey of mine around school. I'm interested in repetition and the journey is repeated by the repetition of feet around the school. If I think of my daily ritual around school it involves a lot of walking around the school-It involves a lot of walking up and down the stairs so this is something that I want to record. I think that the images turned out well. It represents my journey around school. The next step is to perhaps record the sound as well as moving images.
My idea was to record the sound and the image of the movement that is repeated around the school. I think I think the videos above turned out really well considering it was my first attempts also i think the videos turned out really well because I had more than one pair of feet, the next steps for me would be using more people to create more noise. my next step could also be walking outside on the grass with the leaves.
For my next step I put the videos together using premiere pro. the process to putting the videos together sounds easier than it is, as I was doing it I ran into some obstacles, one of the obstacles I found hard to overcome was logging into premiere on a different laptop because I couldn't remember my login details, another obstacle that was hard for me to overcome was getting the film onto the desktop after I had put it together however I managed to do it with the help of our technician
