What is abstraction? Abstraction takes place when a photographer focuses in on a fragment/section of a natural scene (abstract photography definition). I believe that abstraction is zooming into an object and focusing on patterns, shapes and lines. I believe they are the most three important elements. . Zoom in . Lighting . Shapes . Colours . Patterns . In abstract photography you see a lot of creativity. The quality of dealing with ideas rather than events(google definition)
Formal Elements focus; focus is how clear the photograph is. light; which areas of the photograph are brightest? Are there any shadows? Does the photograph allow you to guess the time of day? Is the light natural or artificial harsh or soft, reflective or direct. line; Are there objects in the photograph that act as lines? Are they straight curvy, thin or thick? Do the lines create direction in the photograph? Do they outline? Do the lines show movement or energy? repetition; Are there any objects, shapes or line which repeat any creative patterns? shape; Do you see geometric(straight edged) or organic(curvy) shapes? Which are they? texture; If you could touch the surface of the photograph how would it feel? What do the objects in the picture look like? How do they feel? value/tone; Is there a range of tones from dark to light? Where is the darkest value? Where is the lightest?
In the lesson we had to go around the school taking abstract photographs, it was very hard because i didn't really know what to look for. However the images i took were really good
These are my favourite three images, the first image I really like because its a circle, but, then you have lots of tiny details, The second image I really like because it looks really different to things you would see everyday I am very happy I saw this because it's meaningful, when I saw the wall where it was I thought I would take a picture because its different to anything i've ever seen. Now that I have spent more time looking at it I look at it like a person, there are two sides to a person, good or bad, happy, sad when I look at it I see a person smiling but the person doesn't let people know how they are really feeling inside.and finally the third image,i like this image because of all the tiny details you have to look close to see,

I really like the picture above, its very simple but can be interpreted in many different ways for example the squares could represent a couple or children crossing the road.
the booklet that you see above is a draft for my abstraction booklet. for my images I will be choosing images that I have previously took
today our task was to use a view finder to recreate some of Saul leiters photographs, i am very happy with the work i have produced.the task was very easy for me.
comparisons photographs and paintings.
i chose to compare these images because they both caught my eye and they are very different. image A: . lots of negative space. . it looks like it has been set up. . light colours . image B: . negative space . light colours
image a . image b
This is the image I tried to recreate. I didn't have a darker blue so I improvised and used white. In the image there weren't many lines. the painting i did has turned out well because i matched the colours to the original. my painting could be even better if i had a darker blue, or if i had paint instead of water colours.
